Keeping Our Community Strong

Helena Indian Alliance promises to help build and strengthen ties, common goals, needs, and the trust necessary to having a healthy community.

We proudly sponsor and organize events through the community such as a health and wellness fair, a Back to School Bash, a community picnic, a holiday feed, and Narcan trainings.

Helena is an incredible place to live, raise a family, and we are honored to be a part of it all year long.

 Our Clinic History

Helena Indian Alliance -

Founded in 1969

Helena Indian Alliance began as an idea by community members in the basement of a local church. It started as a workforce training program under Rocky Mountain Development Center (RMDC).

In 1978 we bought our original building, the Colorado Building, on Last Chance Gulch. We received our IHS Urban Indian Health contract in 1980 and opened our clinic which was named in memory of Leo Pocha who was instrumental in getting these services to Helena for tribal members. When it opened it was the first free clinic in Montana and the first urban Indian health center in Montana.

In 2005 we were awarded our current location, Sheridan Hall, which was an old armory from the Department of Defense through legislation. We remodeled the building in 2012 and opened in our current location in 2013. In 2022 we broke ground on the addition to our building, the brand new Leo Pocha Memorial Clinic. This opened in August 2023 allowing us to see more patients and better meet the needs of the Helena community.
